Ms. S, 12 year old girl from Mauritius came to Dr. Naveen Tahasildar- Consultant Spine Surgeon with a gradually increasing bend in her spine which her parents had noticed at the age of 8 years. She was given a brace to control the bend locally which did not help. She also has back pain and difficulty in breathing which hindered her daily activities. She had a severe right sided scoliosis which had affected her self image. She suffered from poor self esteem. She underwent “Posterior Scoliosis Correction and Fusion” by Dr Naveen Tahasildar at Sparsh Hospitals, Bommasandra in November 2016. She recovered quickly and could walk independently on day 4 after surgery. The X-rays showed a satisfactory correction. She went back to Mauritius after 3 weeks of surgery and was under regular follow-up by teleconsultation. SACIM, a non-profit organisation of Mauritius, was instrumental in helping this child undergo surgery. At present, Ms. S is a happy young woman leading a cheerful life that she deserves.
